About AgPHY

Free geospatial processing platform for production agriculture

AgPHY is a free web platform built to simplify agricultural geospatial data processing. File format conversion, shapefile editing, variable classification, field-ready maps — everything that normally requires heavy software or advanced technical skill, in a few clicks in the browser.

Why AgPHY exists

After more than two decades working in precision agriculture, it became clear that most of the time spent by consultants, agronomists, and researchers isn't spent on agronomic decisions — it's spent on repetitive technical tasks: converting and fixing files to load onto a monitor, adjusting the average rate on a prescription map, removing outliers from harvest points, reprojecting coordinates, applying rate limits.

These tasks require software like QGIS or ArcGIS, which are powerful but too complex for casual use. Online alternatives are usually paid, require signup, or send data to servers run by companies overseas.

AgPHY was built to fix that: a simple, free platform, with no signup and no data storage, with terminology that fits production agriculture (ECCE, rate in kg/ha or lb/acre, operational rounding for equipment, etc.).

What AgPHY offers

The platform includes dozens of tools organized into 5 categories:

  • Convert: conversions between the most common geospatial formats — SHP, KML, GeoJSON, CSV, TXT, GeoPackage, GeoTIFF, GeoPDF, plus coordinate system conversion
  • Structure: shapefile structure editing — columns, variable types, geometry and topology validation
  • Edit: numeric value transformations — scaling, limits, outliers, rate rounding, boundary clipping
  • Analysis: statistical analysis and interpolation — correlation between variables, distribution histograms, IDW and kriging interpolation
  • Report: PDF generation with a colored map for printing

Every tool runs 100% in the browser. No install, no signup, no cost, no data sent to third parties.

Technical highlights

  • Full raster (TIFF) support: AgPHY is one of the few free online platforms that does native rasterization and vectorization, with support for NDVI, Sentinel-2 indices, and drone TIFFs
  • GeoPDF generation: produces georeferenced files compatible with Avenza Maps and QField for field use, no QGIS required
  • 3 classification methods: Quantiles, Equal Intervals, and Jenks (Natural Breaks) — available in every classification tool
  • Automatic reprojection: automatic CRS detection with reprojection between WGS-84 and UTM, zone detected from the centroid
  • Validation and safety: upload limits, geometry validation, clear error messages that guide the user

Who it's for

  • Precision agriculture consultants who need to convert, adjust, and bring maps to the field
  • Agronomists working with spatial data day to day
  • Researchers and students processing shapefiles and satellite imagery
  • Geomatics professionals who need fast tools without opening QGIS
  • Co-ops and ag retailers receiving grower data in different formats

How it works

The flow is as simple as possible across every tool:

  1. Go to the tool you need
  2. Upload your file (drag and drop or click)
  3. Configure the parameters (variable, classes, method, etc.)
  4. Preview the result on the interactive map before downloading
  5. Download the processed file

No queue, no usage limit, no charge.

About the team

AgPHY was built by professionals from different backgrounds, with over 20 years of experience in the industry, working in consulting and solution development for precision agriculture.

The platform is developed and maintained independently, with no commercial sponsorship, with the goal of making agricultural geospatial processing tools accessible to everyone.

Technology

  • Frontend: Angular 19 with Server-Side Rendering, D3.js for cartographic visualization, Chart.js for interactive charts
  • Backend: FastAPI (Python), GeoPandas for vector processing, Rasterio and GDAL for raster
  • Infrastructure: dedicated server, in-memory processing with no persistence of user data

The platform is optimized to be lightweight, fast, and to run on any device with a modern browser.

Privacy and data

AgPHY does not collect personal data, does not require signup, and does not store processed files. Uploaded data is processed temporarily in memory and discarded when done. There's no user tracking beyond anonymous usage statistics (Google Analytics) to track how many people are being served.

For details, see our Privacy Policy.

Roadmap

AgPHY is under continuous development. Tools planned for upcoming versions:

  • Spatial interpolation (IDW and Kriging) to generate zone maps from points
  • Advanced statistical analysis: boxplot, ANOVA, mean comparison tests (Tukey, Scott-Knott)
  • Zone averages: point statistics within polygons
  • Generate Report improvements: custom logo, more palettes and classification methods
  • Tool search field to make navigation easier
